When You're a Flat Tire

A much calmer day, but I felt like a flat tire. Today they took my money. Yup. Wired it to the title company. I might try some panhandling for a while... Also needed to hook up utilities to my own accounts. I did electric today, but I just couldn't mentally deal with the rest. Tomorrow. There is always tomorrow, until there isn't. Interestingly the seller had the house and studio set up as two separate accounts with the electric company, and I decided to keep it that way for tax and accounting purposes, but it means I pay a double hookup fee. We do the final walk through tomorrow. The trusty D. will be with me, a nice calming force.

Tonight I Skyped with the writing group, or, at least the three of us who could. Two are off on family business. I'm so glad this technology exists so we can do this--the group keeps me honest and on my toes. I've already scribbled in fixes for the chapter I read tonight. I've been meaning to do some housework for MelBob's arrival, but when you're a flat tire, you're a flat tire. Miraculously I did a load of laundry, but that's about it.

Art is ongoing for the cover of the short story. I'm toying with the idea of starting to look over another one for self-publication. It's never been published, mostly because I had no idea where to send it. It really doesn't fit neatly into a market. So, it would be nice to finally be able to do something with it, not worrying about its market. The market, I guess, would be, well, me.

They had been predicting possible snow for the weekend, but last I heard it's all sun now. Yesterday, with all the excitement, I think I forgot to mention that we had fog. Yes, fog in the desert. I hear that it's pretty unusual, sorta like the amount of snow we've had. Interesting to look at the mountains from time to time after there have been clouds and see that they're coated with new snow, or it's melted some. Talked to one of my neighbors yesterday who works up at White Sands (the missile range) and he has to drive over the pass every night. He says what a different world it is up there when it's snowing. I guess I wouldn't want to be driving through the mountains in those conditions.

I am going to miss this couch when I leave this rental house. I think the dog is going to miss his couch, too.

Congrats on the new house!!!

Poor kitty. I hope he finds a good home.

Yes, if you publish a short story, I'll buy it long before I wonder what market it belongs to. :-)

Thanks--getting ready for the final walk through on the house!

The short is called "Mr. Island", and it is sorta SF/fantasy, historical with romance. It's in the first person, which is unusual for me, but the narrator channeled herself through me.

Hooray for the trusty D! So glad it's all coming together.

Dog may miss that couch but he'll have his chair soon enough. Or a new one to claim.

Yay for seller's kitty!

Flat tire days are really unfun. Hope today was better!
