Listing

No, I'm not tipping over, though sometimes that happens. I picked up my January Locus at the post office this morning and discovered book three hit the top five in B&N/B.Dalton listing for sf/f trade paperbacks behind Tolkien, Kevin J.Anderson, and John Joseph Adams. In fifth place behind moi was Stan Nicholls with Orcs. The Borders/Walden list for trade paperbacks was dominated by the books of Gregory Maguire (Wicked, et al), with appearances by Tolkien and Orcs. I've been blessed that my books have sold well enough to hit these lists in their other editions, but there is something pretty particularly cool about appearing on a list with Tolkien (Children of Hurin). I suppose if Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books were counted, there wouldn't be much room for anyone else... Her adult SF novel, The Host, made the hardcover lists.

The actual Locus List is usually several months behind, so it won't show my book for a month or two or three, if my book made their list.

We escaped a nor'easter this weekend, for which I'm eternally thankful. I had enough shoveling before Christmas to last me the rest of the season. It's in the 20s today, but breezy. I took the dog for a walk down the road, and was glad for the baclava to shield my face. You get in the shade with the wind blowng on you and it's pretty nasty.

Now I'm sorting my 2008 papers and am almost ready to file them away. Then, I'll be ready to shred. This is an annoying rite of passage to the new year, but the sooner I get it over with, the sooner I can get on to the real work I'd rather be doing.

Hope your weekend is good...

Congrats!!!

That's so fantastic!!! Though I'm not surprised. When I first read GR, I fell in love with your writing. Even though it took a long while for your second to come out, I never lost hope that I'd see another one of your books.

Why thank you :-) I'm actually going through GR now. Every so often it's good to reacquaint oneself with what's come before. It's interesting in various ways to go back... I feel like I've come quite a distance.

Looks to be more of the same today, though not as windy. That north wind is a killer.
